NEWBURY — Border to Boston Trail Committee advances design on two segments. Co-Chair David Broll and members Sean McElroy and Jim Dooling approved prior meeting minutes and reviewed funding and design progress on two segments of the regional trail during the April 14 meeting. On the Newbury South segment, Planning Director Kristen Grubbs reported that outstanding invoices with Georgetown have been settled except for recent Stantec charges, and the two towns have re-signed their Memorandum of Understanding to clarify funding procedures.
Newbury submitted a MassTrails grant application February 2 with response expected in early summer, while MassDOT has proposed a joint meeting to discuss out-of-scope work funding needed to reach 75 percent design completion. For the Newbury North segment, contract paperwork with Kittelson is with MassDOT's procurement team for final review, with feasibility funding in good shape and a winter 2027 target for next-phase funding.
