NEWBURY — Border to Boston Trail Committee discusses 70-mile regional project. The committee received an update from David Read and Annie Harris of Essex Heritage and Jerry Klima of Coastal Trails Coalition on the Border to Boston Trail, which connects New Hampshire to Boston along rail routes. A 19-mile segment across Newbury, Byfield, Georgetown, and Boxford remains uncompleted, with committee members considering whether the Newbury South segment could serve as a catalyst for other sections.
Planning Director Kristen Grubbs noted the committee will coordinate advocacy letters to advance Newbury sections with MassDOT. The broader New England trail will span 400 miles from Portland, Maine to New Haven, Connecticut, with 80 percent off-road.
