NEWBURY — Historical Commission hears arguments on preserving former Town Hall at 25 High Rd. About 22 residents testified at a public hearing on the Select Board's demolition application. Supporters of a 90-day preservation delay cited the building's historical significance to the Upper Green; opponents emphasized its poor structural condition, including an unsound foundation and inadequate air quality.
Members present were Rich Morin, Jan Forrest, Lon Hachmeister, Eva Jackman, Rebecca Fuller, and Channing Howard. The Commission will decide within 14 days whether to invoke the 90-day delay under the town's Demolition Delay Bylaw.
