NEWBURY — The Council on Aging addresses membership losses while planning elder law programming. Chair Damon Jespersen reported that three council members will not continue with the board, with the Select Board to approve a replacement at its next meeting. The council tabled discussion of offering its 14-passenger van to transport seniors to Town Meetings, determining more research was needed on insurance, liability, and eligibility questions.
Member John Ferrara proposed inviting an elder law attorney to present on health care proxies, powers of attorney, and wills; Director Cindy Currier confirmed the council plans a recurring speaker series on elder law, hospice, and end-of-life planning, possibly recorded and scheduled for evening hours to reach working adults and their families.
