NEWBURY — Council on Aging proposes library-adjacent facility amid space constraints. The Council on Aging Ad Hoc Committee recommended building adjacent to the town library at a joint Select Board meeting on January 31, citing the current rental's expiring grant funding and growing participation that ranges from ninety-nine to one hundred seventy-three active participants monthly. The committee identified a need for ten-thousand to fourteen-thousand square feet to accommodate expanded programming.
Director Cindy Currier noted that existing constraints force programs like yoga and tai chi classes to use multiple venues or makeshift spaces. The recommendation seeks authorization at Annual Town Meeting for a two hundred fifty thousand dollar feasibility study to validate the site selection and cost estimates.
