Finance Committee backs FY2027 budget and most capital projects

NEWBURY — Finance Committee backs 15 of 18 warrant articles for the May meeting. The Finance Committee unanimously recommended the FY2027 operating budget, salaries, stabilization funding of $50,000, OPEB contributions, ambulance equipment purchases of $147,900, and public safety capital of $914,000, along with local meals and short-term rental lodging tax bylaws. Withheld recommendations on three articles: a $250,000 Senior Center feasibility study over cost and timing concerns, a $72,000 capital purchases article due to concerns about a Council on Aging vehicle and lack of supporting data, and a citizen petition on education funding.

All votes were unanimous.
