Historical Commission reviews preservation work and financial reports

NEWBURY — The Newbury Historical Commission reviewed financial reports and discussed ongoing preservation projects. Treasurer Lon Hachmeister reported a Gift Fund balance of $2,812.65 and general funds of $900 for the fiscal year; the town transferred $3,456.67 from a special account without yet returning the funds. Chair Rich Morin reported a wet ceiling stain and recurring fascia damage in the schoolhouse and discussed painting, tree trimming, and fire alarm updates before the United States 250th anniversary.

The commission discussed Evergreen Cemetery's proposed inclusion in a historic district as the Dole Pasture Burial Ground, and Morin will follow up with stone masons about relocating the Witch's Stone and adding a plaque.
