Newbury Advances $250,000 Senior Center Feasibility Study and Zoning Overhaul

Select Board · Meeting of March 31, 2026

Newbury advances $250,000 Senior Center feasibility study with narrow board split. The Select Board approved the warrant article by a 4-1 vote on March 31, with Clerk Leslie Matthews dissenting, after amending the proposal to focus solely on Center of Aging expansion and removing the Town Hall component. Chair William DiMaio and Vice Chair Alicia Greco supported the amendment, as did Members Patrick Heffernan and Geoffrey Walker.

The Board unanimously endorsed additional warrant items including $147,900 for ambulance equipment, $611,000 for Morgan Avenue Fire Station repairs, and a comprehensive zoning bylaw recodification that expands the Zoning Board of Appeals from three to five members and adds new Clean Energy Facilities provisions.
