Newbury Select Board formally accepts Plum Island beach easements after 17-year gap. The board voted 4-1, with Geoffrey Walker abstaining, to complete a 2009 commitment to the Division of Fish and Wildlife for shorebird-monitoring easements. Vice Chair Alicia Greco noted the town had placed dredged material on Plum Island in 2009 to protect homes from severe erosion, requiring easements as compensation for using public funds.
Chair William DiMaio emphasized the decision's importance to Newbury's credibility for future state funding for projects including the Larkin Dam and Central Street culvert. The board also approved eight short-term rental permits and appointed Joseph A Kennedy to the Council on Aging.
