Select Board approves Newbury's first MBTA housing project
Select Board · Meeting of January 27, 2026
NEWBURY — Select Board unanimously approves Newbury's first MBTA Community housing project on Central Street. The 44-unit townhouse development by Gerard Welch of MHOC LLC received approval for improvements including a one-way entrance and ADA sidewalk enhancements; the Planning Board had unanimously backed the proposal. In related action, the board unanimously executed employment contracts for the Fire Chief and Deputy Police Chief following an executive session.
The board deferred action on accepting easements for the Plum Island Beach Nourishment Project pending a public meeting at Town Offices, after Mark Sarkady of the Plum Island Foundation requested independent legal review and direct stakeholder consultation.
