Newbury Select Board approves police academy candidate with reimbursement clause. Police Chief Patricia Fisher cited recruitment and retention challenges since POST reforms require civilian candidates to complete five months of academy training plus three months of field work before certification. The Board voted unanimously to appoint Grace LoPriore as a student officer effective July 20, 2026, with an employment contract featuring a prorated reimbursement clause depreciating at 20 percent annually to protect the town's investment if she leaves during training.
The Board also approved numerous fiscal year 2027 appointments and reappointments to town boards and committees, multiple one-day liquor licenses for summer events, and acceptance of the town's ADA Improvement Grant Transition Plan.
