Select Board hears COA recommendation for library facility

Select Board · Meeting of January 31, 2026

NEWBURY — Council on Aging Ad Hoc Committee recommends library-adjacent senior facility. The Select Board and COA Ad Hoc Committee heard a recommendation for a 10,000 to 14,000 square foot facility adjacent to the town library, chosen after weighted evaluation prioritizing parking, proximity to municipal services, and outdoor access. Current participation data ranging from 99 to 173 active seniors monthly prompted resident questions about facility size justification.

The recommendation seeks $250,000 at Town Meeting for a feasibility study to address public concerns about site centrality to Newbury's geographically dispersed areas.
