Newbury Finance Committee Unanimously Approves $134,733 Snow and Ice Reserve Transfer
NEWBURY — June 2, 2026 — Newbury Finance Committee approves $134,733 reserve fund transfer to cover FY2026 snow and ice deficit. The committee voted unanimously Tuesday to transfer $134,733.15 from the town's reserve fund to the snow and ice removal account, wiping the fund down to less than $5,000. Chair Erica Jacobson, presiding over her final meeting, noted that snow and ice is the only budget line item Massachusetts law permits to run a deficit, and that a new reserve fund appropriation is already in place for FY2027. Member Vanessa Rossi agreed to take over minutes and posting duties following Jacobson's departure. In a regional school update, Jacobson reported the Triton MSBA project team believes it can deliver a project cost estimate by November 2027, roughly six months ahead of the previously expected timeline — a development she said matters for building the public coalition needed to pass a future debt exclusion vote.
