Newbury Council on Aging moves to let its van carry seniors to town meetings and elections.
Council on Aging · Meeting of August 17, 2026
Newbury Council on Aging moves to let its van carry seniors to town meetings and elections. Director Cindy Currier told the board she has cleared the idea with legal counsel but will add it formally to the town's vehicle-use policy, with board review expected around October and roughly two weeks needed to advertise the service before the November 3 state election. Chair Damon Jespersen reported ongoing engineering and wetland-flagging work on a feasibility study for a new senior center at the town's Kent Way property.
Members approved the July 20 minutes and voted to set their next meeting for October 19 at 9 a.m., skipping September due to travel by both Jespersen and Currier. The board also heard that the Friends of the Newbury Council on Aging is planning a November holiday boutique fundraiser and revising its bylaws.
