Recreation Commission approves Byfield signage, $1 fee increase
Recreation Commission · Meeting of June 1, 2026
Newbury Recreation Commission commits $800 to add Byfield address to Central Green signage. Members voted unanimously to procure a sign reading "81 Central Street, Byfield, Mass. 01922," after resident Evelyn Norris told the board there's "that sense of pride that it's in Byfield." The commission also approved a $1 rate increase for two of its three facility-use fee tiers, pending Select Board approval, while leaving Council on Aging and resident rates unchanged. Members reported nearly $12,000 in unpaid invoices from a youth soccer organization dating to 2023-24, which the recreation director says must be resolved before the group can use fields again.
Outgoing student representative Daniel Jones proposed incoming student Bryce Porter as his replacement, pending a Select Board appointment. The next meeting is set for July 7 at 6:30 p.m.
